Seasons

Welcome, Spring (yeah, you read that right…)

May 22, 2024

Welcome
Put a short description here that explains the purpose of your blog and welcomes your readers. You could also link this to your About Page if you want to send people there.

As I write this, Spring is well underway here in central Texas.**  The birds are busy putting finishing touches on their nests, loudly calling to one another as they scurry from tree to tree.  The butterflies and bees (and red wasps!) are flitting about the flowers, the chickens are happily uncovering bugs and larvae that surface after a soaking spring rain, and I am blissfully surrounded by freshly picked garden flowers and roses.  I’m even in the midst of a “Spring clean” of sorts – determined, once and for all, to finish decorating the house we’ve lived in for 3 ½ years (or rather, to finish moving various pictures and wall decor onto the actual walls and off the floors…recognizing that I’ll never really be “done” with building my own nest, nor would I actually want to be).  This is all to say, Spring is well sprung at this point, and yet I am just now sitting down to write this blog piece in welcome to the “new” season.  Up to this very moment, as launching Sun and Moon’s Spring Collection sat on my mental to-do list, vaguely aggravating my preconceived view of “how it should go,” I would have said that I was late, behind schedule, not yet started when I should have already finished.  After all, Sun and Moon’s collections are built on cultivating harmony with the seasons – and here I was, not keeping in step with them myself!  But now as I settle in to reflect on the first month of Spring, I see things – how appropriately! – in a fresh light.

I didn’t get around to posting my first lovely Spring bouquets because, well, I was “sidetracked” with growing them, with harvesting them (with really quite a lot of pleasure 😀), with bringing posies to friends, and eventually with selling the over-abundance of flowers at market.

I didn’t get around to putting Sun and Moon’s Spring Collection on the website because I was “distracted” with creating it, with drying and infusing oils with petals from said Spring roses to incorporate into it, with testing the products on myself and in my own home (fun part!), with sharing some of those creations with friends and family, and eventually selling those at market too.

And I didn’t get around to writing this, or even having more than a few unfinished thoughts about what I would write, because…well…because life just kept happening.

Behind schedule?  Perhaps, if the schedule is the ever full, over demanding, ultimately arbitrary one that we (yes, I suspect you too) tend to impose upon our own lives, unforgivingly relentless even should Life get in the way.  But by the truer schedule of the Universe, of Nature, of Life Lived on Purpose, I’m right on time.

One of the stunning things about nature is that it keeps its own time, untethered to external expectations of what should happen when.  For all of human might and innovation, that is something we cannot change, and we’d be wise to take the note for our own lives.  Everything comes in its own time; at the right time.  Indeed, that’s the glory of Spring:  something new each day – a new bug, a new bloom, a new birdsong, a new perspective.  And they come when conditions are right; when systems and roots are fortified to support new energy and growth.  They come when they are ready, and they come when Life and Nature are ready for them.

Spring is the season of new beginnings, of uplifting and rejuvenation – not just once but continually, anew in every moment.  If we let the pulse of life and creativity flow through us naturally, in its own rhythm, and if we have the discipline to harness rather than fight it, we can experience that singularly human gift of becoming co-creators of our own experiences.  A lifetime in each moment.

Welcome, Spring!  I wasn’t quite ready for you, but as usual, you are right on time.  🪻🐞🕊️🪺🧘‍♀️

**Addendum! Spring is even more sprung as I now just post this blog piece, having first written it about a month ago. And why? Well, I was distracted celebrating my son’s 9th birthday; with running my very first Spartan race; you know, the good stuff. 💖

And YES! the Spring Collection is now online. If you feel so inspired, check it out here.
