Our values drive everything we do here at Sun & Moon Garden Botanicals. We started this business to bring you beautiful, artisanal candles, body care, and fragrances, but we also stand firmly behind our values. One of which is sustainability. We’re mindful of our environmental footprint in every area of our business, and we love creating with vessels that are meant to be reused. So in this post, we’re sharing our best tips for how to reuse a candle jar and other product vessels, to help you get the most out of your purchase and to be a little kinder to Mother Earth at the same time. 😊

And what perfect timing for fall, as our theme for this season is all about transformation. Just as the falling leaves remind us that every ending holds the seed of transformation, reimagining our vessels gives them a second life. Turning what could have been discarded into something purposeful and beautiful.
First – Sun & Moon’s Sustainability Practices
Sustainability is one of our core values here at Sun & Moon, and we take it very seriously. It’s important to us to preserve our planet’s resources for the generations to come as best we can. So we’ve worked sustainability practices into every area of our business.
Sourcing
We source from US-based businesses whenever possible, thereby reducing our fossil-fuel impact. All of our shipping packaging is either 100% recyclable or compostable, and we reuse as much as we can internally.
Gardening
All of our roses, and many of our other botanical inclusions, are grown in our very own backyard garden, where we practice natural gardening. We use compost and our own composting worms, water-saving irrigation methods, and our garden is a haven for bees!
Ingredients
We’re proud to be Made Better™ certified, and all of our products are free of carcinogens, mutagens, Prop 65 ingredients, as well as reproductive, organ, and acute toxins. Everything is non-toxic, cruelty-free, and vegan, and our candle fragrances are all phthalate-free.
Candle Wicks
Unlike toxic candle wicks on the market, ours are all wooden and made from untreated USA-native wood that’s sourced from FSC-certified mills. And, for every 1 tree consumed to make our crackling wood wicks, roughly 1,875 more trees are planted!
Reuse
Using only the best ingredients carries over to our vessels, too. Our candle, fragrance, and body care vessels are all high-quality and meant to be reused!

How To Reuse A Candle Jar & Other Vessels
Here are our best tips for reusing your candle jars and other vessels:
How To Get Wax Out of Your Candle Jar to Reuse It
There are several methods for removing candle wax from a jar, but we prefer the hot water method. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1
Pour (nearly boiling) hot water into your candle jar.
Step 2
Wait for the wax to soften, and then lift it off the bottom of the jar. Sometimes it may float to the top of the water, but this is not always the case, and that’s okay.
Step 3
Simply pour out the water and wax, gently scooping out any leftover wax. It should come off easily at this point.
Step 4
Once emptied of wax, simply wash your candle jar with soap and water. We don’t recommend putting it in the dishwasher.
Any lingering fragrance that remains in the jar will naturally dissipate over time, but if you’d like to get rid of it right away, you can wipe the interior clean with rubbing alcohol. This removes the fragrance immediately.

How To Clean Other Fragrance Vessels for Reuse
Diffusers, Body Oils, and Spritz Bottles
Simply wash gently with soap and water. Use rubbing alcohol as needed to remove fragrance.
Labels
Labels are best removed by scrubbing gently with a dish sponge using soap and warm water.
Recycling
If you’re not going to reuse them, all of our containers (including the wax melt containers!) are recyclable. And diffuser reeds are biodegradable.
Additionally, all of our plastic wax melt containers are made using recycled plastic. You can feel good about every bit of your purchase with us!
Ways to Reuse Candle Jars & Other Vessels
Looking for some ideas for how to use your candle and fragrance vessels once they’re cleaned out? Here are some ideas!
Candle Jars – Great for catch-alls, tea light holders, makeup brush containers, and especially flower vases.
Diffusers, Oil, and Spritz Jars – We love to use these as bud vases! They’re sweet all around the house, but especially lovely in your table decor as part of table settings. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, this is the perfect time to start dreaming up your holiday tables!
Disclaimer: We do not recommend reusing vessels as food storage.
Looking for a new Fall Candle or Fragrance?
We’ve got so many cozy fragrances lined up for the fall season this year, but our favorites have to be those for mid-season and Halloween.

The Pumpkin Candle
We’re excited to launch a pumpkin-shaped candle vessel this year that holds our Pumpkin & Persimmon candle. Think quintessential fall for this fragrance. It blends the sweetness of pumpkin and fall spice with the brightness of citrus. The tangy persimmon perfectly complements the warmth of blood orange, clove, allspice, ginger, and vanilla. 😍
The Witching Hour
The Witching Hour fragrance this season is as mystical as it sounds. Its spice and earthy sweetness are perfect for the Halloween season. It pairs deep blackberry with exotic saffron, and is balanced by warm amber and tart currant. It’s positively bewitching! ✨
The Witching Hour candle this season comes in a glossy black aura vessel that will complement your Halloween decor perfectly.
